Community members are invited to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime cultural exchange experience – and the journey begins now. \nRooted in VSCA’s mission to promote peace through mutual respect\, understanding\, and cooperation – one individual\, one community at a time – this delegation allows participants to build meaningful global relationships through person-to-person diplomacy. \nBagamoyo\, a historic coastal town known for its rich cultural heritage\, vibrant arts scene\, and warm hospitality\, has long been a valued sister city partner. The fall 2026 delegation will focus on cultural exchange\, educational collaboration\, youth engagement\, and strengthening economic and community ties between our cities. Planned activities include meetings with local leaders\, school visits\, cultural performances\, historical tours\, and community service opportunities. \n“This is more than a trip – it’s an opportunity to represent our community abroad and deepen friendships that foster global understanding\,” said a VSCA delegation organizer. “We welcome residents\, educators\, artists\, business leaders\, students and families who are interested in being cultural ambassadors.” \nJoin the Planning Process\nVSCA invites interested community members to go to monthly delegation planning meetings\, held on the first Sunday of each month. SUMMARY:Oakland-Fukuoka Youth Exchange to Asia-Pacific Children's Convention
DESCRIPTION:Every year since 1989\, Oakland has sent four fifth-grade students as Junior Ambassadors to the Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention (“APCC”) in Fukuoka. APCC was created as one of the commemorative events of the 1989 Asian-Pacific Exposition to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the founding of Fukuoka city.  The goal of APCC is to foster “Global Citizens” who are able to think of the world beyond national boundaries\, and that the desire for world peace will be encouraged.  In the hope of helping this dream come true\, the children who will shape the world in the 21st century gather together in Fukuoka and gain mutual understanding of different cultures and language through homestay and cultural exchanges.    \nEvery year\, the APCC brings children from all over the Asian-Pacific region together to take part in this two week exchange program. During the exchange\, the children have the opportunity to experience family life in Japan through a homestay. The APCC participants also introduce traditions from their home country to the other participants and the people of Fukuoka through taking part in an exchange camp and a performance event in Fukuoka City.  By taking part in these activities\, the children are able to build a network of mutual understanding as they meet and make friends with children who look and speak differently from themselves.  It is also a chance for the citizens of Fukuoka and the surrounding areas to learn about other cultures first hand as they take part in our activities as a volunteer or as part of a Host Family.  \nView our online photo album of the APCC.

DESCRIPTION:The Vallejo Sister City Association (VSCA) is thrilled to announce plans for an exciting international delegation to our sister city of Bagamoyo\, Tanzania\, scheduled for fall 2026. Community members are invited to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime cultural exchange experience – and the journey begins now. \nRooted in VSCA’s mission to promote peace through mutual respect\, understanding\, and cooperation – one individual\, one community at a time – this delegation allows participants to build meaningful global relationships through person-to-person diplomacy. \nBagamoyo\, a historic coastal town known for its rich cultural heritage\, vibrant arts scene\, and warm hospitality\, has long been a valued sister city partner. The fall 2026 delegation will focus on cultural exchange\, educational collaboration\, youth engagement\, and strengthening economic and community ties between our cities. Planned activities include meetings with local leaders\, school visits\, cultural performances\, historical tours\, and community service opportunities. \n“This is more than a trip – it’s an opportunity to represent our community abroad and deepen friendships that foster global understanding\,” said a VSCA delegation organizer. “We welcome residents\, educators\, artists\, business leaders\, students and families who are interested in being cultural ambassadors.” \nJoin the Planning Process\nVSCA invites interested community members to go to monthly delegation planning meetings\, held on the first Sunday of each month. The meetings will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Vallejo Sister City Room at JFK Library.
